Fixing 404 errors

Hey everyone, I’m encountering a few 404 errors on my website and could use some help figuring out what might be causing them and how to fix it. Any advice or steps you recommend would be much appreciated!

I’ve seen this a lot. Often 404s come from changes you made to URLs or pages that might have been removed without setting up the right redirect. I’d start by checking your server logs and Google Search Console to see which URLs are missing. Then, if you’ve permanently moved content, make sure you set up 301 redirects from the old pages to the new ones. Also, double-check your internal links and sitemap to ensure they’re not leading to nowhere. This usually solves the problem and keeps user experience smooth.

i’ve played around with custom 404 pages that not only let users know something’s up but also direct them to some popular sections of my site. it feels like a smoother user experience than a dead end, even tho i dont know if google actually cares about it. anyone seen real upticks in seo from doing that? im kinda curious!

Hey, I’ve dealt with a few 404 issues that affected my conversion rates more than I expected. I’ve noticed that when visitors hit a 404, it can totally break their buying journey, so I implemented custom redirects that match user intent better. It wasn’t just about fixing the URL but also guiding users to related content. I even set up a temporary fallback page to lead them back into the funnel instead of just a blank error. Has anyone experimented with using content recommendations on 404 pages? Curious to see if that really helps boost conversions on the fly. Cheers!
